History

Hammel Associates Architects, LLC was founded in 1990 by Kenneth Hammel, AIA. Prior to the creation of Hammel Associates, Ken was part owner of Levengood Associates, Architects and Levengood Hammel, Architects. Ken has filled a variety of roles in many architectural boards, commissions, and interest groups throughout his career. Just a few of these include acting as Chairman of the Building Code Board of Appeals for the City of Lancaster, a BOCA and IBC certified building inspector and plans examiner, and a building inspector and plans examiner for the PA Uniform Construction Code.

Ken has also been an appointed member of the Lancaster Township Planning Commission since 1993. During his term, the Planning Commission has rewritten both the Zoning Regulations and the Land Development and Subdivision Ordinance. He served as the Principal Architect in the development of the Lancaster City Upper Level Development Guidebook which received a Citation for Excellence from the City of Lancaster.
