This branch library is part of the Dauphin County Library System which operates nine facilities in the Dauphin County area and will be prototype for other library branches in the county.

Walnut Street Branch Library and
Central Administrative Offices
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

The Walnut Street Branch of the Dauphin County Library System was originally built in 1914. To this day this historic Georgian Style stone building maintains its presence in downtown Harrisburg along the Susquehanna Riverfront with its classical cornice line and pediments and large Palladian windows.
The on-going work on this project includes the removal and reinstallation of the historic clay tile roof, replacement of the building’s HVAC system, asbestos abatement, painting the existing plaster, repointing the existing stone, and restoring a portion of the original vaulted ceiling.
Madeline L. Olewine Memorial Library
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

This new branch library is the second using the contemporary prototype design developed for the Dauphin County Library System. The site is located in uptown Harrisburg in the Susquehanna River’s flood plain, so the building was placed on piers to raise it above flood water levels. To aid in funding for the library, glazed tiles inscribed with the names of donors were incorporated into the design of the building.
