South East Lancaster Health Services
Lancaster, Pennsylvania

MERIT AWARD - AIA CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN

Work included the design for new construction of a 14,500 sf clinic, housing medical, dental, counseling, community services and administrative offices.

The design responds to the adjacent, award-winning structure of the Lancaster Neighborhood Center while establishing an identity of its own. The steel cornice and trellis are examples of Victorian architectural elements which have been adapted from surrounding residential and commercial structures and incorporated into this contemporary building.

The small size of the urban site and the project program dictated the use of a two-story structure with the challenge of designing a logical allocation of spaces that works efficiently in a two-story arrangement.

HONOR AWARD - AIA CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN

New two-story, 47,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility designed to blend with the surrounding community and traditions of Lititz, Pennsylvania. The design incorporates a silo flanked by two barn-like structures to reflect local Amish- style architecture.

Key Interior elements include pear wood wall panel system with matching trim and casing, Douglas Fir web truss and framing structures, black and green Brazilian slate flooring.

Key components of this project include: Theory projection space capable of operating as one 1,300 sq.ft. facility or as two independent 650 sq.ft. facilities with state-of-the-art digital presentation amenities, Teleconference Room equipped with international audio/visual communication capabilities. Sophisticated security and HVAC systems with remote management capability.

Exterior elements include a zinc standing seam roof system, 6” thick field stone building and site walls, and Pennsylvania blue stone pavers.

An attractive outdoor terrace sited adjacent to the 150-seat cafeteria was created overlooking a private pond.

Lancaster Neighborhood Center Renovation
Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Planning and design to update the thermal performance and appearance of this 20-year old award-winning, city-owned building. Weatherization, mechanical, electrical, accessibility and site improvements accounted for 75% of the budget for this $1.65M urban project.

A previous work plan and feasibility study were evaluated and subsequently reorganized by Hammel Associates Architects to accomplish the complex objectives of the owner, meet the established cost parameters and accommodate the tenants that occupied the building during construction.
