Hamilton Club
This beautiful redesign and complete renovation of the Buchanan Bar and Wheatland Lounge within Lancaster’s Hamilton Club was completed as a design-build project. Members now walk through the main entry and are greeted by the dramatic backlit bar as they enter the club’s main lobby.
The overall intent of the project was to update the design and decor to appeal to and attract younger club members. Original dark wood paneling was replaced with brighter finishes on the ceiling to lighten the space. In retaining some of the ambiance of the former space, dark wood paneling was selectively incorporated, providing an overall sophisticated vibe.
The very successful project, completed with no change orders, has immediately become the most popular space in the club, hosting many casual meals and gatherings. The Interior Design for the project was completed in collaboration with Henrietta Heisler Interiors.
Exterior:
The stately architecture of this Chateau-esque style building speaks to the quality and longevity of the historic Hamilton Club. A cornerstone of the City of Lancaster’s historic district, additions to the building required careful consideration. Renovations included several additions such as a 70-seat dining room and associated kitchen, a new accessible entrance and elevator, and renovated and expanded Health Club facilities. Several elements included in the original architecture serve as feature pieces to create a design with a historic continuity akin to the surrounding community while providing contemporary functions to its members.
Interior:
The first major construction project at the Hamilton Club in over 50 years – this addition and renovation project resulted in major mechanical and electrical systems changes. New spaces were created for these systems on hidden rooftops to maintain the aesthetics of the building and its interior spatial requirements.
Anchoring the new open stair from the Lobby to the Lower Level, this stone turret was previously concealed beneath the 1950’s construction.
